Message from the Head of the Mathematics Department

Since education serves as the backbone of any society, we, too, with full attention to this value, are committed to educating the new generation of our beloved country Afghanistan in the field of mathematics, and we strive to meet the national needs in this area. In today’s world, the progress and self-reliance of a society are impossible without modern education. Therefore, we call on our youth to pursue higher education and lead our nation toward the heights of independence in every field.

Introduction of the Mathematics Department

The Mathematics Department was approved in 2011as part of the Faculty of Education at Helmand University in its third organizational structure. In the same year, it officially began its administrative, academic, and educational activities. So far, through eleven cohorts, it has graduated 428 academic professionals who now serve the society.

The Mathematics Department of Helmand University aspires to serve as a leading and responsive academic entity at the national and regional levels in the teaching, research, and    practical application of mathematical sciences.

The Mathematics Department of Helmand University is committed to providing quality teaching, standard research opportunities, and practical skills in accordance with contemporary academic needs. The department strives to prepare competent professionals equipped with Islamic values, technical expertise, and a research-oriented mindset to contribute effectively to the development of society.

  1. To establish an academic environment aligned with national and international standards and to obtain academic accreditation in quality enhancement.
  2. To enhance the professional and specialized capacities of faculty members.
  3. To conduct new research based on contemporary mathematical topics and to create opportunities for scholarly investigations.

All administrative and teaching activities of the Mathematics Department are carried out by a team of seven permanent faculty members, including the Head of the Department: one PhD holder, five Master’s degree holders, and one Bachelor’s degree holder.

 

 

  • Academic Programs

The teaching process in the Department of Mathematics is carried out by professional, qualified, and experienced faculty members. They regularly deliver specialized, professional, and informational conferences and seminars, and also participate in the university’s academic events. The members of the Mathematics Department consistently strive to write research articles on various mathematical topics and publish them in national and international journals, and many of their papers have been published so far. The Mathematics Department also organizes various short-term professional development and capacity-building programs for both current students and graduates. At present, graduates of the department are employed in numerous governmental and private universities, schools, and other institutions.

  • Academic System

According to the Higher Education Law, the bachelor’s degree program generally consists of four years, with each academic year divided into two semesters (Spring and Fall). Each semester includes sixteen (16) instructional weeks.

The Mathematics Department offers a total of 167 credits across all eight semesters. In each week, a maximum of 21 credits is taught, and each credit corresponds to one instructional hour (50 minutes).
